Dear students and families,
Since January 2020 with the outbreak and global spread of the coronavirus, schools and public areas are closed and the epidemic outbreak of COVID19 has tremendously impacted our lives. With public areas reopening, the battle against COVID19 has morphed into a long-term, arduous combat. Hospitals, food supply chains, and the transportation industry all have been maintaining mostly normal operations in order to meet people’s basic needs and to help ensure social stability. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to all the frontline staff! Thank you all-especially our sincere appreciation and gratitude to all doctors and nurses who are making differences for our lives!
Even now Maryland schools still have not resumed normal classes and activities. Many public areas remain closed. As individuals, how do we get through these very challenging and difficult times? How will students and families support and endure the pandemic crisis at home? To encourage students to engage with activities and make a contribution to the community and society, we would like to invite individuals and families to participate the international virtual talent show, We Are the World, which was initiated by a several families of the Chinese Christian Church of Germantown. To participate the event, please fill out the registration form and simply upload the video as instructed. For details about the event, please visit our website at shureneducation.org
The event is sponsored and operated by Potomac Chinese School and Shu Ren Education. Special thanks for Christian Chinese Church of Germantown (CCCG) Children's Department, the Board of Directors of Potomac Chinese School and Talent Show Committee, American Chinese School Rockville Campus, and Montgomery College (MC). We look forward to seeing you in the show!
Sincerely
Shu Ren Education

Mrs. Kathy Gold received her Bachelor of Music degree (Theory & Composition) from Butler University in Indianapolis and her Master of Music degree (Music Composition) from the University of North Texas in Denton.

Dear participants, parents and guardians,
Thank you for participating the international virtual talent show, we are the world 2020.
We had a total of 41 video entries submitted for the competition, and 42 participants from age of 3 to 17. We appreciate the talent that you all have from instrumental music, dancing, and poetry reading to music composition, rubik's cubes and pogo stick etc. A big thank you to the many students and families who helped to make this event a huge success.
Eight judges recommended from local schools, local dancing studios and piano studios were invited to the judging process. Each video has been reviewed by 3 to 4 judges using the judge’s rubric posted on the shureneducation.org. The final score of each participant was the average of all scores that the participant received.
I would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to all judges. Thank you all for your dedication and expertise when it came to the judging of all the videos. Perhaps this was the first virtual talent show competition for all of us. A lot of discussions regarding the judging process were carried out along the path. Thank you for volunteering your services, especially during such a busy and unusual time as COVID-19 is pandemic, and doing so for this public event. I want to give a special thank you to Judge Mrs. Gold, who has been supporting and assisting this event from very beginning to the very end.
I am excited to announce the top six winners of the virtual talent show:
Congrats to the top six winners!
Most of you probably do not know that the first-place winner, Justin Shao, is my son. As his mother, I am pleased to see the results. However, having my own child win the first-place in the event that I am the main organizer and sponsor somehow is awkward, although he supported the event like other participants did. I spoke to him. He was willing to give up his first place. The board of directors of Shu Ren Education have set up an honorary award, Community Service Award without a prize, something memorable, for him.
After Justin Shao stepped down from the first-place, the top six winners with the prizes are:
First Place: $100
Second Place: $50
Third Place: $30
Community Service Award:
HM: 10 individuals (From 7th to 16th) will receive a 10% discount voucher for one session of a course at Potomac Chinese School
